What kind of merchant account can I use with ProcessAway NMI? ProcessAway NMI works with any merchant account provider that can communicate with the NMI gateway. Are they any monthly charges? The software has a one-time fee to purchase in the AppStore, but your merchant account is an ongoing monthly charge. You will have both a gateway charge, which goes to NMI, and a statement charge, which goes to the merchant account reseller that will maintain your account and all the paperwork involved. Does my mechant account only work through ProcessAway NMI? No! ProcessAway offers a robust, quick authorization solution anywhere there is a network connection on your iPhone or iTouch. Every merchant account processed through the NMI gateway comes with a Virtual Terminal. This Virtual Terminal is accessed from any web browser and offers complete transaction processing. You can use ProcessAway NMI where ever it is convenient, both in the office and out, and when you want a "real keyboard" and "real screen" to process transactions, you can use your office workstation to log onto your virtual terminal. My phone has been "jailbroken". Will this cause security issues when using the program? No, as long as you are using an authorized copy you purchased from the AppStore. We are aware that most iPhone apps get cracked and are distributed through unauthorized means. For us this is just a minor loss of revenue, but for the merchant who is using a cracked version EXPOSES A SEVERE RISK TO THEIR CUSTOMERS AND THE MERCHANT. It is of extreme importance that you are using an UNMODIFIED copy of the software. A cracked version that is posted on the net could have had any number of changes made to the code, including sending all your credit card transaction info to a third party to do with what they please. We can't imagine a merchant would risk saving a few dollars and take a chance of the lawsuits that could be filed against them by their clients, their merchant account provider, and the processor for using hacked credit card processing software. Is ProcessAway NMI PA-DSS certified? ProcessAway NMI is investigating PA-DSS certification. ProcessAway NMI was developed with the requirements in place to pass PA-DSS certification. Does ProcessAway NMI work on an iPod Touch? Yes, it works on a Touch with a WiFi network connection. Obviously, the locations you can use ProcessAway NMI are much more limited than on an iPhone. You can use ProcessAway NMI at locations you know you can get a WiFi signal: your office, a kiosk at the mall, a hot dog cart outside of Starbucks. Don't you need to get a signature for the charges over a certain amount? No. There are two main types of merchant accounts. A Card Present account is an account that requires the physical presence of the card/person for the transaction (also known as swiped transactions). With this type of transaction, you are usually required to have them sign for the charge. This is the type of account that the retail industry uses: stores, restaurants, etc. The second type of account is Card Not Present account. This is the type of account web merchants use, and also ProcessAway NMI. With this type of account, you just need the credit card number, expiration, and amount, but some processors require you to also get address verification and the CVC2 code. It may seem like the Card Not Present would be the better account to get (less restrictions), but with the Card Not Present account comes a higher fraud and chargeback risk. I'm concerned about carrying around my merchant account information. Is ProcessAway NMI password protected? Your iPhone has protection built into the system. With or without ProcessAway NMI, we believe every iPhone should have auto shut-off enabled with password protection. Your contact database is probably much more valuable to someone than trying to hack into ProcessAway NMI for the login/terminal. With that being said, ProcessAway NMI has no access to your personal merchant account information. This is secure at the gateway. ProcessAway NMI has incorporated a PIN protection scheme to access the program. Any plans for a card reader or printer to interface with ProcessAway? We are working with companies now on this subject. I live in the UK. Can I use ProcessAway NMI? ProcessAway NMI works with many merchant account providers. Some of these providers can provide account to merchants outside of the United States. An option for setting the country currency has been added to accommodate these providers. Check with your ISO to see if they can access the NMI gateway. What is a Chargeback and how can I minimize them? A Chargeback is when the credit card issuer takes back the funds from the sale and returns all or a portion of it back to the customer. The two main reasons for this is that the customer is dissatisified with the product and can't resolve it directly with you first, and the second is the customer claims they never made the charge in the first place. A Chargeback because of a dissatisified customer usually can be avoided by open lines of communication. This type of chargeback is most detrimental to your account standing. Too many of these types of chargebacks against you would put your merchant account in jeopardy. You must try to resolve the customer's issues directly, and if you can't, it may be better to issue a refund rather than wait for the customer to file a chargeback claim against you. The first thing the card issuer will ask the card holder is if they contacted the merchant first before filing a chargeback claim. If they didn't, the card issuer usually won't pursue it until they do this first. If the card holder says they did contact you but couldn't get satisfaction, an investigation will be started. In cases of customer satisifaction, the card issuer usually sides with their card holder. A Chargeback because the card holder denies the charges can be because of three reasons. First, an unauthorized person used the card. This could be another family member, a friend, or even a criminal who stole the card. Second, the card holder could just have forgotten about making the charge. And third, the card holder is lying about making the charge. To avoid unauthorized charges, it is in your best interest to verify the identity of the individual making the charge, verify the signature on the card, and also use AVS(address) and CVC (card code) verification when making the charge. To prove the the cardholder was present and did make the charge with you, here are a few methods you can use:
